Who's Been Ballin' in the West? Top Stars and Their Scoring Stories This Season

As we approach the final stretch of the 2024–25 NBA regular season, the Western Conference playoff race is tighter than ever. With several teams battling for a top-six seed and a guaranteed playoff spot, there’s no room for error—and no time for the stars to rest. While some have elevated their game to another level, others have surprised fans by staying consistent, even as Father Time knocks.

Let’s take a look at how some of the league’s biggest names have performed this season in terms of scoring—some are young stars still climbing, others are grizzled vets still holding their own, and a few are just flat-out dominating.

7. Stephen Curry – 1,613 points

Early in the season, it looked like Steph Curry might finally be showing signs of decline. But the two-time MVP quickly silenced that narrative. After the Warriors traded for Jimmy Butler, Curry’s form surged—and so did Golden State’s.

In recent crucial matchups, Curry turned back the clock, dropping 52 on the Grizzlies, 37 on the Lakers, and 36 against the Nuggets, helping the Dubs claw back into the top-six race. He’s averaging 24.4 points per game and, with four must-win games left, expect Steph to keep the pedal down. He’s on pace to cross the 1,700-point mark.

6. LeBron James – 1,641 points

Many doubted the Lakers coming into the season—new head coach JJ Redick, no major offseason upgrades, and LeBron turning 40. But the King continues to defy expectations.

The midseason addition of Luka Doncic shifted LeBron into more of an off-ball role, giving him cleaner looks and a chance to conserve energy for defense. However, a groin injury temporarily slowed him down. After a sluggish return, he’s finally back in rhythm—and just in time. With the Lakers now securing a playoff spot, the goal is clear: keep LeBron healthy for one more postseason run.

5. James Harden – 1,684 points

With the Clippers slashing costs last summer, expectations were low. Then Kawhi Leonard missed a chunk of time with injury. Enter Harden, who stepped up in a big way.

Averaging 22.5 points, 8.6 assists, 5.7 boards, and 1.5 steals, Harden’s numbers may not scream “MVP,” but his leadership has been invaluable. The Clippers are 0–3 without him this season, underscoring just how much they rely on his playmaking. He’s played in 75 games already—don't expect him to rest now with L.A. still jostling for playoff position.

4. Anthony Edwards – 2,056 points

One of the brightest young stars in the league, Ant-Man has taken another leap. Now more confident shooting off the dribble and deadly from deep (39.7% from three), Edwards is putting up 27.4 points per game, and has already nailed over 300 three-pointers this season—only Malik Beasley can say the same.

The Timberwolves are currently 46–32 and seventh in the West, but they’ve won five straight and have a relatively easy schedule ahead. Edwards should easily eclipse the 2,100-point mark if he stays hot.

3. Nikola Jokic – 2,007 points

No more coasting through the regular season for the Joker. With Denver’s roster thinned out since last year’s title run, Jokic has shouldered an even bigger load.

The numbers? Eye-popping: 30 points, 12.8 rebounds, 10.2 assists, 1.8 steals per game. He’s pushing to become just the third player in history to average a 30-point triple-double in a season.

And yet, Denver’s recent four-game skid—including a heartbreaking 61-point triple-double effort from Jokic in a loss to the Wolves—has them dangerously close to slipping into the play-in. The MVP race might’ve just slipped away too.

2. Giannis Antetokounmpo – 1,953 points

The Greek Freak is still doing Greek Freak things—30.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.3 assists per game—but the Bucks? Not so much.

With just 44 wins and only four games left, Milwaukee has no chance at a 50-win season, and their chemistry issues are showing. On top of that, Giannis’s heavy usage is starting to raise injury concerns. He narrowly avoided missing out on awards eligibility due to time missed.

The Bucks aren’t the force they were a couple years ago, and Giannis might be wondering just how far this group can really go.

1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – 2,442 points

The new scoring king of the NBA.

SGA has taken his game to an MVP level this season, averaging 32.6 points, 6.4 assists, 5 rebounds, plus nearly 2 steals and a block per night. He’s dropped 50+ three times, and he’s put up 20+ points in 71 straight games—passing Michael Jordan for fourth all-time.

With the Thunder looking like true contenders and holding one of the league’s best records, SGA has likely locked up the scoring title and is the frontrunner for MVP honors. Jokic may have the stats, but the Thunder’s superior record tips the scales.

Final Word:The West is wild, and the stars are shining bright when it matters most. Whether it’s the old guard (LeBron, Steph, Harden) refusing to fade, or the new generation (SGA, Edwards) announcing their arrival, this has been a regular season to remember.
