Randall posted a triple-double to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 102-97 victory over the Golden State Warriors, giving the Timberwolves a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference Semifinals. After the game, a Timberwolves staff member waited in the interview area to hand Randall something: the game ball.
Randall finished with 24 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds, becoming the second player in Timberwolves history to record a triple-double in the playoffs. The last player to do so was Kevin Garnett. According to ESPN, Randall had 24 points and 11 assists in Game 2, making him the first player in Timberwolves history to record two 20-point, 10-assist games in a single playoff season.
“I feel like I have a lot of different skills, you know what I mean?” Randall said. “The key is to use my brain and exploit the holes in the defense. If they don’t double-team me, I’ll score; if they do, I’ll pass the ball to my teammates.”
In the fourth quarter, Randall's playmaking ability shone as he dished out 5 assists, helping the Timberwolves defeat the Warriors 33-24 in that period.
“He’s incredible, man. He always finds his teammates when they cut, time and time again, finding open players and speeding up the game,” said Edwards, who scored 28 of his game-high 36 points in the second half. “This is exactly what we expect from him, and he’s been amazing. We can’t ask for more. He makes my game so much easier, so I’m grateful to have him on the team.”
McDaniels also shared his thoughts on Randall’s impact.
“When the opponent uses a big man to guard him, the big man is too slow; when they use a smaller player, the smaller player is too weak. So, it’s hard for anyone to stop him,” McDaniels said.
“It’s his playmaking, decision-making, and ability to impact the game from different spots on the floor that has turned our season around,” said Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch. “He helped us finish the regular season with a 17-4 record and has led us to a 6-2 playoff record so far. He’s like another point guard for us on the court, and that’s been crucial in turning things around. It’s been huge for our team.”
